Kitchen & Bath Design Trends for 2022

As 2021 winds down and we prepare for the excitement of the New Year, it’s always fun to look ahead and predict what will be trending for kitchen and bath design. Perhaps these trends will serve as inspiration for your own home refresh in 2022!

Color of the Year

Color is such an important part of a space’s overall design and vibe.

For the Color of the Year 2022, most leading paint manufacturers have selected a gentle shade of sage green to anchor the palette, accented by neutrals, blues and clear lavenders with touches of rose pink and soft terracotta. All providing for a very inviting, warm and earthy feeling – sure to invite harmony and relaxation.

Natural pairings with this easygoing mood are elements of rich wood and mixed metals with the emphasis on warmth, plants, wallpaper and textured wall treatments. On the flip side, some may go in the opposite direction for some dark drama and braver color contrasts – still keeping in mind a tranquil and casual environment.

Kitchen Design Trends

Natural stones, especially marbles, and marble looks continue to be quite popular in the kitchen. Now, we’re seeing these materials expand beyond the countertops into full-height backsplashes and wall treatments. The more interesting and active the pattern, the better.

Design elements like double islands, statement hoods, glass partitions, floating shelves and spacious pantries will enhance the space and make it truly unique.

It’s all in the details to finish the look. Layered lighting, metal mesh cabinet inserts, unique handle designs – mixed in with some key vintage pieces, including artwork – help create a true living space, one that’s both inviting and functional.

Bath Design Trends

Many of the kitchen design trends are following through in the bath as well.

For instance, natural marbles and marble looks stay strong not only for countertops but also for floor and wall applications.

Natural wood and wood looks in tile play an important part as well.  Large-format tiles work very effectively for both these aesthetics.

Other trending bath design elements that are not far off from those in the kitchen include distinctive wallpaper and wall treatments, mixed metal accents (especially warmer tones) and glass wall partitions. Additionally, bathrooms are using similar color palettes of muted greens and blues with statement baths using dark rich navy and blacks.

Special trending style elements include:

  • Decorative mirrors with a custom look
  • Wet room design to combine tub and shower into one area
  • Color back into sinks and tubs
  • A touch of nature with lush house plants.
