2020 Countertop Trends
It’s that time again to peer into the crystal ball and see what’s trending, new and exciting for the year ahead in countertops.
LG Hausys, producers of Viatera quartz, shared some interesting marketing insights from the Marmo+Mac stone show in Verona this past fall, forecasting into 2020.
Natural Stone Trends
Patterns
White and grey stones remain popular, as well as larger veined material. Uniqueness of pattern has become increasingly important, exhibited through depth of color, variation of vein thickness and stone translucency.
Dark or black stones show high contrast with large movement and tone-on-tone looks through linear patterning.
Finishes
Finishes vary from polished to matte, with the matte looks going beyond honed and providing more texture and a tactile response.
Color
Can’t forget the splash of color! Pantone’s color of the year for 2020 is Classic Blue, so you will definitely continue to see blue in cabinetry as well as countertops and tile.
Green stones are also making an appearance and a comeback in 2020 – in all shades, with warmer toned neutrals to round out the palette. Metal accenting completes the picture.
Tile Trends
Looking for tile for your new backsplash? There’s a movement back to square. Yes, the 4×4 and 6×6 tiles are back, but this time with organic texturing for a new take on the familiar shape.

Quartz manufacturers – like LG Hausys’ Viatera and MSI’s Q Quartz line – are always scanning the marketplace to watch for new developments that could influence their latest offerings. A lot of thought and research goes into launching new countertop products to make sure that it’s aligned with the current demand curve (or helps create a new one).
