Solid What? When it goes up against natural marble, granite or quartz, solid surface is an easily overlooked product. Today, it seems as if we’re in a whole new generation of potential buyers who are not familiar with this multi-tasking, attractive and practical product.
But it hasn’t always been this way. Ever heard of Corian made by DuPont? That’s the most well-known solid surface product of its kind, even decades after its invention. And over the years, many other brand names entered the market offering similar product choices.
Let’s reintroduce you to solid surface:
One of the most unique features of solid surface is that the like material sinks, when joined and finished to the top, appear to be one with the countertop. Pretty nice and easy on the clean-up!
Once upon a time, this product only came in the basic selection of white, beige and bone (or some variation thereof). As the years passed, the palette blossomed to include not only the basics but also very modern, on-trend looks.
Warm and inviting to the touch, this acrylic surfacing option provides the homeowner with a whole different countertop experience with its cool, sleek look and feel of stone.
No under mounting of sinks needed here (although it can be done).

This is one of the key reasons why solid surface is great in the kitchen, and most especially love it for the bath. It makes an awesome shower or tub surround. Include a curved designer bench made from the material to hold some nice fluffy towels. Solid surface also has thermoforming capabilities, so you can make a custom shower pan for that dream master bath.
If you can imagine it, it probably can be made from solid surface.
The point here is to not overlook another very viable countertop option for your next home project. Keep an open mind and explore (or reexplore as the case may be) all the variations and possibilities of solid surface. You might be surprised on just how cool this old product really is.
